Soul legend Mavis Staples has announced a new album called If All I Was Was Black. The album was produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, a regular collaborator with Staples since 2010. The title track has been shared, as well as the cover art and tracklist. Tweedy said of the political messages within the album, “I’ve always thought of art as a political statement in and of itself—that it was enough to be on the side of creation and not destruction. But there is something that feels complicit at this moment in time about not facing what is happening in this country head on.” It was also announced that Staples will be joining Bob Dylan on tour this fall, unfortunately without a Seattle date. UK goth rockers The Horrors are releasing their new album V later this month. Until now we've heard the brooding "Machine" and the bright, euphoric "Something To Remember Me By." Today they've shared the sprawling third single, "Weighed Down." V follows up 2014's Luminous and will be released September 22 via Wolf Tone/Caroline International. [ NME ]

North London four-piece Wolf Alice are rolling out their sophomore album, Visions of a Life, on September 29 via Dirty Hit/RCA. Today they've shared the single "Beautifully Unconventional" which sounds vastly different from the previously released singles "Yuk Foo" and "Don't Delete the Kisses." The official video accompanying the new single features the band in a glamorous '50s soundstage, with lead singer Ellie Roswell channeling her inner Marilyn Monroe. Roswell said of the song, "This song is a celebration of all your non-conforming friends; a celebration of individuality and the adventures that come with embracing that." Visions of a Life follows up 2015's well-received debut My Love Is Cool. [ The Fader ]

Ohio singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield has revealed the third single from her forthcoming album Sorry Is Gone, recorded with veteran producer John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Dinosaur Jr., The Hold Steady, Sonic Youth, Andrew WK) and former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley. Called "Offa My Hands" the song premiered via Lena Dunham's newsletter Lenny Letter, which included revealing details from Mayfield about an incident with domestic violence.
