  • Australian psych-rock five-piece POND have a new video out for "Colder Than Ice," off their seventh studio album The Weather, released earlier this summer. The video is simplistic in nature, with director George Foster following the band around while they goof off. It also features fellow Australian musician Kirin J Callinan, who recently toured with POND. The Weather was produced by Tame Impala's frontman Kevin Parker and was released via Marathon Artists. • Today our heroes Depeche Mode have covered our other hero David Bowie's iconic song "Heroes." The band has frequently been performing it live on their recent tour and today we received a studio recording along with a video directed by Tim Saccenti. Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan said of the cover: "'Heroes' is the most special song to me at the moment. Bowie is the one artist who I’ve stuck with since I was in my early teens. His albums are always my go-to on tour and covering ‘Heroes’ is paying homage to Bowie.” A new anniversary box set celebrating Bowie's output from 1977-1982 called A New Career In A New Town will be released on September 29th. Depeche Mode released Spirit last March and will be in Seattle on Saturday, October 21 to play the Key Arena. And KEXP's Fall Drive introduces "Bowiecorn" (Bowie + a unicorn), which you can get as a gift when you POWER KEXP! [ NME ]
  • New York indie duo Cults announced their reunion in July and their new album, Offering, comes out next month. We've already heard the title track, "I Took Your Picture," and "With My Eyes Closed," and today they've revealed another single called "Right Words." The song is said to have been inspired by ’80s acts like Cleaners From Venus and R. Stevie Moore but sound more like signature Cults than anything. Cults will release Offering on October 6 via Sinderlyn and will, fittingly, be in Seattle on Halloween, Tuesday, October 31, to play Neumos. [ SPIN ]
  • The Wesley Eisold-led dark synthwave band Cold Cave have premiered a new single called "Glory," their first since last year's single, "The Idea Of Love." They've also shared a video directed by the band's own Amy Lee that features the five-piece looking cooler than cool while expressionlessly playing the song in front of a yellow background. Whether this will be on a full-length follow-up to 2014's Full Cold Moon is anyone's guess. [ Stereogum ]
  • New Jersey's Screaming Females have released their first music since 2015's Rose Mountain, a single called "Black Moon." The song was originally released last week but only as a 7" and only 24 copies were made to be sold at one record store in New Jersey. Now the rest of the world has an opportunity to enjoy the song via streaming platforms, as the music gods intended. Screaming Females will play the Vera Project on Saturday, October 14 with Street Eaters. [ Pitchfork ]
