  • Natalie Mering, better known as Weyes Blood, has had a busy year. She released her latest (and very good) LP Front Row Seat To Earth late last year and followed that up a few months later with a collaborative EP with Ariel Pink called Myths 002. Next on her agenda is a 7" of two covers of two songs that greatly influenced Mering, Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin'" and Soft Machine's "A Certain Kind," both released in 1968. Both are vastly different from their original versions and hauntingly beautiful. A Certain Kind b/w Everybody’s Talkin’ is available Thursday, September 7 on 7” and digital formats. • Toronto-based quartet Alvvays are releasing their sophomore album Antisocialites tomorrow, September 8, via Polyvinyl. On the eve of its release they've shared "Lollipop (Ode to Jim)," which frontwoman Molly Rankin claims to have written after having the honor of singing "Just Like Honey" with The Jesus & Mary Chain last year at the Spectrum Now Festival, which would make one presume that the Jim referenced in the title is Jim Reid. Alvvays have previously shared "In Undertow," Dreams Tonite," and "Plimsoll Punks." Catch Alvvays on Saturday, October 28 at the Showbox. [ The Line of Best Fit ]
  • R&B singer Miguel burst onto everyone's radar in 2012 with the ballad "Adorn" but 2017 Miguel is flexing his muscles in an entirely different way with his latest single "Shockandawe." The pulsing track may not make use of his powerful pipes but it's a fun and urgent song. Miguel recently shared the Travis Scott-featuring single "Sky Walker" so hopefully these two tracks are leading up an album announcement. His last album was 2015's Wildheart. [ Pitchfork ]
  • Manchester electronic duo Lamb have unveiled a new track called "Illumina," that came about while the duo was in the studio revisiting their 1996 self-titled debut album. In honor of Lamb's 21st anniversary, the duo are playing the album in its entirety for a series of shows that will kick off in Dublin on September 30.  Lead singer Lou Rhodes said of their new song, "'Illumina' was inspired by the way two people can see the same situation in very different ways and this difference, rather than being a point of conflict, brings a kind of illumination. In love we come together to learn and shine light in each other's shadows." [ The Quietus ]
