Father John Misty has unveiled the official music video for early single from FJM’s upcoming album God Favorite Customer, “Mr. Tillman.” The clip, co-directed by Jeff Desom and Carlos Lopez Estrada, follows the lyrical content of the song, with Josh Tillman spiraling into a psychotic break at a hotel. God’s Favorite Customer is out June 1 via Sub Pop/Bella Union and follows last year’s Pure Comedy. Tillman has also shared the singles “Just Dumb Enough To Try” and “Disappointing Diamonds Are the Rarest of Them All” off the new record. Father John Misty will headline this year’s Capitol Hill Block Party on Sunday, July 22. [ Stereogum ]
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks have shared a new song featuring guest vocals from former Sonic Youth frontwoman Kim Gordon. Titled “Refute,” the song comes from Malkmus’ upcoming album, Sparkle Hard. The former Pavement frontman previously stated (or possibly joked) that he was first thinking of Lorde on the duet before Gordon. “Refute” follows the singles “Middle America” and “Shiggy.” Sparkle Hard will be released May 18 via Matador and will be the band’s seventh album, after 2014’s Wig Out at Jagbags. Catch Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks at the Neptune Theatre on Saturday, August 4. [ Under the Radar ]
Spotify has revealed a pair of songs Jack White recorded at the Spotify Studios in New York City. The first is a live version of “Over and Over and Over,” off the recently-released Boarding House Reach. The second is a very jammy cover of the Modern Lovers’ “Pablo Picasso” off of their 1970 self-titled debut. The six and a half minute song stretches out the original and turns it into a signature Jack White affair. Boarding House Reach is out now and follows 2014’s Lazaretto. White will make a stop in Seattle on Monday, August 13 to play the WaMu Theatre. [ Pitchfork ]
Thundercat has contributed a new song to Adult Swim’s fantastic Singles Program. Titled “Final Fight,” the funky, fidgety jam is the first release since last year’s studio album Drunk. That’s not to say that the man hasn’t been busy. He recently scored an episode of Atlanta, played on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as well as The Tonight Show, and has released a number of surreal videos. Thundercat will take the Sasquatch! stage on Friday, May 25. [ Consequence of Sound ]
