MoPOP Celebrates 28 Years of Pearl Jam with Upcoming Exhibit

It’s getting harder and harder to remember a Seattle without Pearl Jam. For 28 years they’ve become something of an institution in the city. Just the fact that they’ve consistently stayed together throughout nearly three decades isn’t just an accomplishment, but a rarity in the music industry. With all the history the band has forged and accrued over that time, it should be no surprise that the breakout grunge stars are getting their own exhibit at MoPOP.

Dubbed Pearl Jam: Home and Away, the exhibit will open on August 11th to coincide with the band’s Seattle Home Shows at Safeco Field – so start planning your PJ-themed weekend now. Pearl Jam will be providing artifacts and memorabilia from the band’s personal warehouse, including instruments, stage props, handwritten lyric sheets, artwork, and even the giant letters spelling out the band’s name on their landmark debut Ten album cover.

MoPOP senior curator Jacob McMurray describes the exhibit in a press release, “From their beginnings as one of the originators of the “Seattle Sound” and the grunge phenomenon, to their sustained global impact as one of the most popular and respected bands in the world, Pearl Jam’s story is still unfolding as they continue to sell out shows world-wide and use their stage to further social and political consciousness.”
