The Flaming Lips have shared a demo version of their song “Tomorrow Is,” from SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical. The original was written by Wayne Coyne, Steven Drozd, and Derek Brown and described as an “ebullient and empowering ballad with an uplifting message” and “a centerpiece of the acclaimed Broadway production.” The new version, shared today, is titled “We Only Have Tomorrow.” The Flaming Lips were nominated for a Tony Award for their contribution to the SpongeBob musical alongside fellow SpongeBob contributors T.I., They Might Be Giants, and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and more. Apple has unveiled a commercial starring Grimes that features a clip of her new song “that’s what the drugs are for.” Titled “Behind the Mac,” the advertisement sees Grimes discuss her creative process, with quotes like: “It’s super important for me to work on the floor a lot” and “You can do way weirder things if you’re alone in a room and you’re not worried about people judging you.” Grimes is supposed to be releasing a new album this year. Alt-J have shared a new version of Relaxer track “In Cold Blood” that sees the UK band enlist Twin Shadow to rework the track and rapper Pusha-T to come in for a verse. The song was debuted on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night. Relaxer is Alt-J’s third album and was released last year. Twin Shadow released Caer earlier this year. Pusha-T just released the Kanye West-produced Daytona. Not to mention, he just won the biggest rap beef in recent history against Drake. [ Stereogum ]
Former Majical Cloudz lead vocalist Devon Welsh has shared a new solo song titled “Vampires.” The single was produced by Austin Tufts of BRAIDS and follows last month’s “I’ll Be Your Ladder.” Majical Cloudz broke up two years ago, after releasing four albums. “Vampires” is accompanied by a music video directed by Christopher Honeywell.
