Bodega – Endless Scroll (What's Your Rupture?) 
This Brooklyn band's debut full-length is an excellent set of sardonic post-punk with driving guitars and spiky rhythms accompanying often-spoken/shouted vocals and snarky, humor-laced and often self-deprecating lyrics aimed at consumer culture, modern technology and various hypocrisies of modern life.

Sink Ya Teeth – Sink Ya Teeth (Hey Buffalo) 
This British duo's debut album is a potent blend of hypnotic post-punk and slinky deep house, with a spare sound combining propulsive rhythms and beeping synths with often-deadpan vocals and lyrics of alienation.

Jim James – Uniform Distortion (ATO) 
The 4th solo album from the My Morning Jacket frontman features a raw and electric rock sound reminiscent of Neil Young & Crazy Horse and It Still Moves-era My Morning Jacket, combining fuzzy guitar riffs, fiery solos and muscular rhythms with James' plaintive, lo-fi vocals and lyrics revolving around the ways that modern technology distorts reality.

Gorillaz – The Now Now (Warner Bros.) 
The sixth album from this virtual band led by Damon Albarn finds them without the usual large assortment of special guests, instead, putting the focus squarely on Albarn with this mostly summery set of breezy dance-pop juxtaposing sleek grooves and sun-kissed melodies with often-melancholy lyrics.

Field Division – Dark Matter Dreams (Bella Union) 
This Des Moines, IA duo's debut full-length is a well-crafted set of folk-tinged, '70s-steeped pop with a warm sound featuring dreamy guitars, soaring strings, atmospheric keyboards and lush harmonies.

Henrik Appel – Burning Bodies (PNKSLM) 
This Swedish artist's debut album is a solid set of stripped-down, lo-fi garage-pop and yearning folk-rock.
