Upstream 2018: Chanti Darling (6/2)

The music of Chanti Darling is an indelible combination of R&B (both contemporary and of a certain vintage) so irresistible, at one point there were at least thirty people standing outside of Little London Plane, with a couple of folks dancing right alongside the window. Over soulful electronics evoking the past thirty years of the genre, frontman Chanticleer Tru's honeyed falsetto carried out into the street with such strength he probably didn't even need a mic.

Their set was part music and part performance art, as dancers made their way through choreographed moves for each song. Perhaps it was less performance art and more the aforementioned R&B of a certain vintage, as many singers and groups just don't bring along dancers anymore.
