New Zealand musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords have announced that they will air a new comedy special on HBO this fall. Flight of the Conchords: Live at the London Apollo will air on Saturday, October 6 at 10 PM. Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement have shared a funny teaser video promoting the special. According to the press release, the special will feature both “classics and new original songs.” The past couple of years, the duo have been touring for “Flight of the Conchords sing Flight of the Conchords Tour,” up until McKenzie suffered an injury after falling down a flight of stairs. [ SPIN ]

Trevor Powers has retired his Youth Lagoon moniker and is releasing the first album under his birth name on August 17. The album is called Mulberry Violence and today he’s shared two new singles from it, “Clad In Skin” and “Squelch.” The songs were inspired by the book Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury and follow the previously released singles “Ache,” “Plaster Saint,” “XTQ Idol,” and “Dicegame.” Catch Powers at Barboza on Thursday, September 27. Austin-based singer-songwriter Molly Burch has announced her sophomore album First Flower, to be released via Captured Tracks on October 5. The album announcement comes with the single, “Wild” and a video by Luca Venter. “I wanted to write a song that made me feel at peace with my imperfections, and celebrate others without putting them on pedestals,” says Burch. “I think for the most part we all share pretty similar fears and insecurities. Or at least that's what I'm hoping.” Burch will be in Seattle on Tuesday, October 30 to play the Sunset Tavern. [ The Fader ]

British punks Idles have taken on toxic masculinity in their new song “Samaritans.” Frontman Joe Talbot explains, saying: “There’s been a long line of bullshit that has pushed men into a corner, where simple masking becomes a trope of masculinity and a catalyst for insanity. What we wear, what we eat, what razor we use, high performance chewing gum, go faster shampoo, how we treat women, how we treat ourselves, how we die. I truly believe that masculinity has gone from an evolution of cultural praxis to a disease. I wanted to encourage a conversation about gender roles by writing this song.” The track comes from Idles upcoming album Joy As An Act of Resistance and follows last month’s pro-immigration single, “Danny Nedelko.” Joy As An Act of Resistance is due out August 31 on Partisan Records.
