Pixies have announced that their seventh studio album is due for release in September. Its creation will be chronicled in a new podcast series hosted by distinguished music journalist Tony Fletcher titled Past Is Prologue. Produced by Signal Co. No1, the podcast will be a weekly 12-part documentary that will start airing in June and end around the time of the album's release. A trailer has been shared that dramatically mythologizes the legendary rock band. “Through daily conversations and a forensic examination of their past, Tony discovers their creative ambition and drive remain as relevant – and weird – as ever,” reads the YouTube description.
Pixies’ latest album was 2016’s Head Carrier, the first record in which bassist Kim Deal is replaced by Paz Lenchantin. The lineup for the upcoming album will remain the same, with Lenchantin joining Joey Santiago, Black Francis, and David Lovering. The as-yet-untitled record was written throughout 2018 and recorded in December at Dreamland Recordings outside of Woodstock, NY.
