Random House has announced that Prince’s highly anticipated memoir will finally get its release this fall. Titled The Beautiful Ones, the book was initially announced in March 2016, a month before Prince’s death on April 21 at the age of 57. The 288-page book is described as “the deeply personal account of how Prince Rogers Nelson became the Prince we know: the real-time story of a kid absorbing the world around him and creating a persona, an artistic vision, and a life, before the hits and the fame that would come to define him.”
While the manuscript was unfinished, with Prince submitting 50 handwritten pages before his death, the memoir will be padded with rare photos, scrapbooks, and lyrics. It will also include an introduction from The New Yorker’s Dan Piepenberg, who was collaborating with Prince on the project. Piepenbring will explore Prince’s final days, which he says was “a time when Prince was thinking deeply about how to reveal more of himself and his ideas to the world while retaining the mystery and mystique he’d so carefully cultivated.”
The Beautiful Ones is out October 29. Read KEXP’s Rewind of Purple Rain and explore Kevin Cole’s tribute to Prince, Nothing Compares 2 U. The exhibit "Prince from Minneapolis" is currently running at MoPOP, get tickets here.
