Titus Andronicus Call for Unity on New Single "Tumult Around the World"

Last month, New Jersey’s Titus Andronicus announced a new album titled An Obelisk due for release on June 21 via Merge Records. Less than a year and a half after the release of their last album, A Productive Cough, the record sees the band returning to the rowdy rock they’re known for. Today, the Patrick Stickles-led band has shared the second single off the record, “Tumult Around the World,” which follows lead single “(I Blame) Society.” Stickles had this to say about the song:

“It’s so hard to stop the stream of spoilers these days. It should not be terribly surprising to anyone that we must each strive to shatter the illusion of individuation so that we might offer greater empathy and understanding to our whole human family, united as we are in our common struggle, and even if it is, well, I don’t want to wait til the record comes out to tell everybody.”

The song comes with a video of Stickles calming listening to the rollicking single playing on a vintage record player while doing some light reading of Chandra Talpade Mohanty’s Third World Women and the Politics of Feminism and Carl Jung’s The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious while sipping coffee.

An Obelisk was produced by Hüsker Dü’s Bob Mould and recorded at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studio in Chicago over six days. As of now, the closest they’re getting to Seattle this year is Vancouver, BC on September 15 to play The Imperial. Below, watch the video for “Tumult Around the World.”
