Review Revue: Beat Pagodas - s/t EP

Welcome to Review Revue, where every Thursday I dig through the KEXP stacks to share DJ reviews and comments written on the covers of LPs (and occasionally CDs) in the ’80s and ’90s, when the station was called KCMU, the DJs were volunteers, and people shared their opinions on little white labels instead of the internet.

You know you're not dealing with a hugely popular band when the search engine assumes you've entered a typo. No, computer, I wasn't looking for the best pagodas (though now I'm curious . . .); I seek information on the Seattle band Beat Pagodas, which released a four-song EP in 1984, and . . . well, that's still about all I know. Apart from a lovely photo gallery (which really does give you a feel for what the band was about), and an article that's mostly about The Spectators (whose bass player went on to join Beat Pagodas), there really is very little out there about this band. I was able to find some of their actual music on Youtube, though, and it's making me wish I could time travel to the Golden Crown to catch them live. Anyway, yet again, I find myself significantly increasing the "information" online about a band by sharing the snarky, barbed, and giddy opinions of a bunch of college radio DJs in 1984.
