Sequoyah Murray is an emerging 22-year-old Atlanta-based vocalist, musician, and producer who recently signed with Thrill Jockey Records and released his debut EP titled Penalties Of Love on May 3rd. Although only four songs long, the EP showcases his visionary soulful pop sound that has drawn comparisons to Arthur Russell as well as contemporaries such as MorMor and Sampha, and sets the stage for his upcoming debut album Before You Begin that will be released on September 13th. His guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World is an eclectic sonic journey through his wide-ranging influences as he unpredictably segues between off-kilter experimental pop and moody nostalgic jams. Featuring classic left-of-the-dial artists such as Pixies, Björk, Depeche Mode, and The Human League, he also mixes in some vibrant world music from Konono Nº1, severely underrated dance-pop from Róisín Murphy, a classical arrangement by Arturo Michelangeli, and three tracks off his debut EP.
