Punk-pop princess Lisa Prank is in love with love. And on her upcoming release, Perfect Love Song, she explores every facet of the experience. “I wish a different emotion was so alive and exciting to me,” she says via a press release, “but love is just the one that feels so visceral and consuming.” Today, KEXP is thrilled to premiere the newest single from the album, "Ignore It", which acknowledges the denial some people engage in just to keep that "perfect love."
Prank (real name: Robin Edwards) gave KEXP more insight into the song:
"I wrote “Ignore It” all in one sitting the next morning after finding out about a deep and devastating betrayal. It’s about holding onto a damaging relationship long after you should because you want to live in the idealistic dream you built a little bit longer. It’s about ignoring the voice in your head telling you to leave to instead fixate on the little details of love that make it feel like it’s meant to be, even when it’s actively destroying you. In the studio, Rose Melberg came up with the wild three part harmony at the end (and sang two parts of it) after we watched a Rick Springfield music video a bunch of times."
This sophomore release was ignited by what she calls "Lifetime movie level heartbreak", but finds Prank surrounded by friends. Rose Melberg (of Tiger Trap, The Softies, and Go Sailor, to name a few of her projects) is a perfect pairing with Prank, producing the new LP and contributing backing vocals. Roommate Bree McKenna (of Tacocat) gave feedback and played bass. And drummer Tom Fitzgibbon takes over for the Roland MC-505 drum machine used on her debut album Adult Teen.
Perfect Love Song will be out October 4th via Father/Daughter Records. Check out the extensive tour dates below.
