Ever since the release of their debut album Kiss Yr Frenemies last year, we've been wanting more from L.A.-based project Illuminati Hotties. Today, they deliver with their take on the 1987 hit single "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" by Whitney Houston. Frontperson Sarah Tudzin transforms the track into an acoustic lament reminiscent of an Elliott Smith song. Tudzin says the following about her rendition:
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is a perfect song. The sentiment behind it is so forlorn, while the track behind it rages on in ’80s exuberance in such a way that only a power-diva like Whitney Houston could pull off. It’s a song that has always fascinated me, so I started covering it live from the angle of heartbreak that is illustrated by the lyrics, and ultimately decided to record it to tape and slow it down even further.
Illuminati Hotties embark on a mostly-east coast tour this month, including a stop at North Carolina's Hopscotch Fest.
The release celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Magnetic Fields' beloved album and benefits No More Dysphoria
