Andrew Weatherall – producer, DJ, and fixture of London’s acid house scene – has passed away from a pulmonary embolism. His management shared this statement, “He was being treated in hospital but unfortunately the blood clot reached his heart. His death was swift and peaceful.” Weatherall was 56-years-old.
While he’d first done work writing/cofounding the Boy’s Own zines and singing in post-punk bands, Weatherall’s storied music career began in earnest when English DJ Danny Rampling invited him to his club night Shoom. Weatherall and his fellow Shoom DJs would later take the Boy’s Own titled and turn into a label called Boy’s Own Recordings (Weatherall would later leave the label in 1992, which changed its name to Junior Boy’s Own).
Weatherall became known for his remixes for artists like New Order, My Bloody Valentine, and Happy Mondays. He also produced notable records for artists such as Beth Orton, Primal Scream, and The Twilight Sad. On top of all this, Weatherall had a prolific solo career of albums and DJ compilations. His final release, Qualia, was released in 2017.
