#PlayingAtMyHouse: Songs That Give You Peace

With #PlayingAtMyHouse, each week KEXP will announce a music-related theme to our audience and ask our listeners for examples of each theme by sharing songs on social media with #playingatmyhouse. But it’s more than just sharing songs. Our hope is people will take it as an opportunity to interact with each other by sharing opinions, recommendations based on other people’s picks, memories attached to the songs, or whatever else may come up for you. This week's theme is songs that give you peace.

We could all use a little peace right about now. While we’re all doing our part during COVID-19 to stay at home, it can be understandably tough to go without some of the creature comforts of our lives from just a few months ago. Thankfully, music can offer a respite from the world and the right song can provide a moment of calm.

As with nearly every #PlayingAtMyHouse theme so far, this theme is highly subjective and ties to our personal experiences and preferences. For some, maybe it’s wistful ambient drones or twinkling keys of the piano. Or for others, maybe a perfect voice alone with gracefully played acoustic guitar will do the right trick. Or maybe it’s not the timbre of the song at all – the music just invokes a memory that brings you comfort.

The spirit of #PlayingAtMyHouse has been to give us connection while we’re apart and grappling with uncertain times.
