Midnight in a Perfect World: Freak Heat Waves

Composed of Steven Lind and Thomas Di Ninno, Freak Heat Waves are a Victoria, BC-based duo who have been crafting fuzzy, groovy, psychedelic, and unpredictable music that explores a wide range of genres ever since releasing their self-titled debut album in 2012. Following releases on Hockey Dad Records and Telephone Explosion Records, this year they released their 5th full-length album Mondo Tempo on revered Canadian label Mood Hut Records to tackle a sweet blend of dream-pop, trip-hop, dub, downtempo, house, disco, and other cerebral underground styles.

Their exclusive guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World is as deep and eclectic as their own music as they share gems from their record collection spanning dub, psych, electronic, ambient, soul, and more. It's an illuminating late-night soundtrack from a duo with boundless ears and expansive taste.

Midnight in a Perfect World, KEXP's weekly hour-long guest DJ show, airs Fridays at midnight.
